General Lewis Littlepage Sword

Holding the Turkish scimitar (sword) that my 5th Great Uncle, General Lewis Littlepage, took from an assassin in 1784.

(Gen. Littlepage was a U.S. Diplomat, Advisor to the last King of Poland, Diplomat to the Russian Court of Catherine the Great, Polish Representative to France, fought at the Battle of Gibraltar, & was admired by George Washington, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, Field Marshal Suvorov, & Gen. Lafayette)

Background: The firing of the One o’clock Gun dates back to 1861 when it allowed ships in the Firth of Forth to set the maritime clocks they needed to navigate the world’s oceans. The idea was brought to Edinburgh from Paris by businessman John Hewitt.
